Edgar Allen Poe is famous for his distinct style of writing. Authors use stylistic elements to create an effect on their writing that develops a voice. Factors such as Edgars past has influenced his writing and has contributed to his style. In his literary works, Poe uses figures of speech such as irony, similar point of views, and allegory to establish his voice as an author. The similar point of view found in his writing gives Poe his individual style. Allegory is commonly used in Poes literary works. The Raven is an allegory for the seven stages of grief. In the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe the ideas of the Ibo tribe are greatly influenced. The main character, Okonkwo, does not embrace the cultural collision of the introduction of Western ideas into the Ibo tribe and the cultural collision leads to his tragic downfall. Before the Western influence was introduced, Okonkwo was a very confident and successful man who brought achievements to his tribe and himself by â€Å"throwing the Amalinze, the cat [the great wrestler who was unbeaten for seven years].† (Achebe 13) Okonkwo was also very manly and believed in not showing emotions like his father, Unoka. His father was very different from Okonkwo because he was known as â€Å"lazy and improvident and was quite incapable of thinking about tomorrow.† (14) Throughout the novel Okonkwo had many experiences when he could not show weakness especially with Ikemfuna when â€Å"Okonkwo drew his machete and cut him down.
